Statement Earrings

Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

With so many Christmas parties coming up sometimes you just don’t have the time to think of enough outfits to wear for all of them. However, fear not, adding a pair of statement earrings can help spice up any outfit, if you have a trusty black dress but fear it is too ‘boring’ pair it with some great earrings (and maybe a great clutch) and then you’re good to go.

Statement earrings can be worn with your hair up or down, whatever you feel more comfortable with, sometimes having your hair up and wearing longer earrings helps elongate your neck, or if you prefer to wear your hair down they will still look great.

The other great thing about statement earrings is that you don’t have to blow your budget to get your hands on something fabulous! There are items available at all price levels and here are some of the best currently available.

If you want some classic, ‘chandelier’ style earrings, head to Net-a-porter who have some stunning earrings available, including these Swarovski crystal ones by Erickson Beamon. At £355 they are at the top of most peoples’ budgets but a sure way to add a great touch of glamour to your look.

Erickson Beamon £355

Not sure you need quite that much ‘bling’? These ‘bohemian’ style earrings are a great choice to wear day and night, a perfect addition to the day to night outfit for all those after-hours get soirées.

Debenhams £76

If those two are still a bit out of your budget then head to Topshop who always have a great selection of costume jewellery, with statement earrings playing a big part in their current collection. If you want something a bit more ‘quirky’ try the feather drop earrings below, or if you want something a bit more sleek, the gold swirl earrings are a great choice.

Winter Warmers

Friday, November 11th, 2011

With the chilly weather setting in, a good winter hat is a must!

Hats are high up on the style stakes again. There are many on the high street to choose from to give your wardrobe a cosy winter look, and being stylish at the same time.

Long gone are the days when bobble hats were seen as geeky. They are now very on trend and the chunkier the better!

This one from Topshop £16 , is a great accessory to have throughout the winter months. Geek chis all the way!

Team with your favourite oversized jumper and skinny jeans for a cosy autumnal look.

We are still slightly obsessed with leopard print, this print can be seen everywhere on the high street at the moment.  As said before don’t be afraid to add print to your outfits, adding a subtle hint of leopard print can work better.

This hat is perfect for this from Topshop £16. The Beret has also become a classic over the years and is a staple hat for your wardrobe!

If you feel like trying a different look, this cute Primrose Hat from Monsoon £30, is great for the work into evening look.  Very 1920s, and very much like Angelina Jolie in the film Changeling. Elegant and sophisticated, this hat will look stunning. Adding a touch of Hollywood glamour to your wardrobe, but warm at the same time!

Last but not least this will definitely keep you warm all winter.

Fur is also another element you can add to your wardrobe to complete and build outfits. This hat will add texture to different styles and can be worn with just about everything.

This is a gorgeous faux fur hat from Jigsaw £39. Very chic and glamorous and in classic black you can’t go wrong.

These are the main styles of hats you will find in stores so pick your style or two and keep cosy and stylish all winter long !

Cute Clutch Bags

Friday, November 4th, 2011

It’s coming up to party season and most of us will be on the hunt for the perfect party dress (for which I will post about in due course so keep your eyes peeled!) but what is the perfect accompliament to the party dress…the clutch bag.

Clutch bags can have a tendancy to be inpractcal, however if you shop around you will be sure to find one that will fit more than just your lipgloss. Some helpful tips to consider when purchasing a clutch bag…

  • Is it secure? Clutch bags tend to be pretty and delicate, which sometimes results in them not being too reliable at holding your valuables. Try picking one that has a zip fastening or clasp mechanism to ensure items wont fall out.
  • How big do you want it to be? Recent trends has seen an increase in oversized clutch bags such as the ‘envelope’ bags, but even these bigger clutches can still be a bit impractical if you’re going to be on your feet most of the time, make sure you pick a size that is best for you.
  • How many outfits do you ned it to match? Ensure that it will fit it’s purpose, whether that’s to accompany one outfit or several, it needs to be just right!

Here is an example of the ‘envelope’ clutch bags. This one is from Marni available at net-a-porter.

Most of us usually buy the dress and then the bag to go with it, but don’t be afraid to go against the grain and splash out on the bag first. Your clutch bag can be your statement item that will make your outfit stand out, those of you who prefer to play it safe with the dress can afford to go all out on the clutch bag!

Here are some of my favourites to choose from…
